Given that we're spending more time in our living spaces chances are we tire a bit of our surroundings, but upgrading them on a budget may seem time consuming and daunting. Consider taking a step back and adding some creativity to what is already included in your space, some times all we need is a new perspective, so here are 5 cheap and easy ways to refresh your living spaces during a pandemic.
1. Rearrange furniture!
The easiest way to get a better feeling in your space is by trying something new with the placement of furniture you already have. Try shifting the couch away from the wall, or try moving the television to the other side of the room. Rearranging furniture is the easiest way to refresh a space as it gives the eyes a shake up similar to a cold shower for the body, a difference from what it is used to. It may even shift your attention to features you forget to appreciate within the space you already have.
2. Add greenery!
There are numerous benefits to adding plants indoors! Whether potted plants or cut blooms, there are several emotional, physical and neurological benefits of having plants indoors. Now as much as I'd appreciate a bouquet of flowers from L House Events DAILY, a couple stems of Red Gingers from your garden can also add a much needed boost to your space. Cut them at different lengths from the bloom so that they will sit at different angles in the vase. No vases on hand? Try placing them in a wide bowl which works beautifully as well.
3. Paint it up!
If you've managed to step out from the contractor white coat of paint in your space, great! A fresh coat of a colour already there, painting an accent wall, or even a bold color all around are great options to consider. However if you're going for a more bold colour, try mulling on a couple options for a bit. We tend to choose colours on a Saturday morning when we've woken up with a buzz to get things done, however consider collecting a few colour samples then sticking them on the wall they're meant for. Revisit them to see how they look and feel in different lights-when you're getting ready for work in the morning or on a chill Sunday evening, how does each make you feel? You'll make a more informed decision this way plus you'll feel more confident in the choice you've made.
4. Throw pillows!
We tend to go for single, neutral colours when selecting upholstery pieces, throw pillows are a cheaper option to paint which also adds colour and intrigue in a living space, not to mention they're easier to switch around when you're ready for another change! Pro-tip, add a couple textured fabrics in the mix to add depth and intrigue.
5. Reupholster furniture!
If however you've tried rearranging, and adding cushions and greenery and it doesnt seem to quite do it, reupholstering furniture with a fresh new fabric may be the way to go. BONUS, If nothing is structurally wrong with the piece, reupholstery (particularly for smaller pieces like hassocks, stools and dining chairs) may not be quite as expensive as you think, plus it's definitely better for the environment. Consider trying new colors or mixing patterns with solid colors. See this Pinterest Board for inspiration.
